Where the hell is the UN?

I know there is a big difference between us and Indonesia, and there is a pretty big difference in the severity of the devastation as well, not to say hurricane Katrina was a piece of cake, but we aren’t looking at nearly the same loss.  That being said I find it absolutely disgusting that today, on the 30th of August, Mr. Annan hasn’t even found the time to express his condolences, let alone pledge aid.

A quick look at the news highlights from the day, www.un.org/News/ossg/hilites.shtml, shows Kofi had plenty of time to make sure everyone realized he was cutting his vacation short because he is just such a great guy, but he couldn’t even say his prayers are with the victims of Katrina.  In fact, Sálvano Briceño appears to be the “highest on the food chain” of the UN to give a rat’s ass.  And even then his comments were limited to basically look even the super powers get screwed.  Come to think of it I change my mind, I don’t like him, he took the time to talk but didn’t think of actually expressing his condolences or such.

Fine bunch of people we got up here running this crappy two timing organization we call the United Nations.  In fact, on the day of, the day of the tsunami disaster, the US, who holds no responsibility (beyond being a good neighbor) to support others in a crisis, had pledged 35 million dollars, a figure later raised to 350 million (though my current counts set us somewhere at 2 billion, of which would be a great help in these disasters).

So, the US, which isn’t there to help countries in time of need (we are, but we don’t have to be), worked faster at actually promising aid, than Mr. Annan, who leads an organization there solely to help unite the countries of the world, can be bothered to say “Gee, that sucks, I am sorry.”

As the geeks online would say, good game Kofi.  The UN sucks the big one.
